Three Florida and three Georgia chefs will soon prove their mettle with cast iron skillets, as they compete in the “Cast Iron Chef” cook-off during the 3rd Annual Brooks County Skillet Festival on Saturday, October 19, 2013, in Quitman, Ga.  Chefs will have to create a dish using 1 mystery box of ingredients (sourced from Brooks Co. GA & the surrounding 150-mile area), 1 cast iron skillet and 1 burner.

The Skillet Festival, Saturday, October 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be held on the historic Courthouse Square in Quitman, GA

The festival offers something for everyone, including culinary exhibitions, food/culinary vendors’ market, the “Cast Iron Chef” professional cooking competition, a 5k run/walk, children’s activities, a dog show, live musical entertainment, and the signature event, a skillet throwing contest. This year, The Guinness Book of World Records will be on site to certify the farthest cast iron skillet throw (if a record is set), and festival-goers will also set the record for the largest number of cast iron skillets thrown at one time.   For more information and a schedule of events,   visit http://www.skilletfestival.com/ or call 229-263-9085.
