CELEBRITY “HURRICANE” COOK-OFF AT THE 14TH ANNUAL FORT LAUDERDALE “TASTE OF THE NATION,” WEDNESDAY MAY 10
This year, in addition to bringing together chefs and restaurateurs with vintners and wine distributors to create a sensational food and wine tasting , and to the live and silent auctions featuring wines, trips, sports memorabilia, merchandise and other prizes, there will be a celebrity “Hurricane” cook-off. Local celebrity chefs Oliver Saucy (Cafe Maxx, Pompano Beach) and Johnny Vinczencz (Johnny V's Ft. Lauderdale) will team up with TV celebs to see how creative you get with the food that is in your refrigerator/freezer in the days following the storm and having limited or no power to prepare meals using the resources at hand. The event will take place on the Live Auction Stage with “reality show” winds, rain and lightning. The original idea came from Oliver Saucy's real experience last fall after Wilma...when he was stuck with a fridge and freezer full of food... so he just invited the neighbors over several nights for "dinner" and cookouts.... (he said stone crab night was really popular, as wasthe shrimp... etc. he had some prime stuff in his fridge and freezer!!)
General Admission tickets are $85.00. The V.I.P. Chef’s Reception, offering a pre- event party with an opportunity to meet the chefs and savor pass-arounds, champagne and martinis, are $150.00 per person ( including general admission). All tickets may be ordered by calling 305-704-6005. or visit www.tasteofthenation.org . 100 % of ticket proceeds are donated to support Share Our Strength's efforts. Ft. Lauderdale-Broward Convention Center - 1950 Eisenhower Blvd., (at 17th St. Causeway and the Intracoastal Waterway) (for details click on: http://www.southfloridagourmet.com/newsite/hotevents.html)
