A cross between funky neighborhood bistro and top-notch eatery, Michy’s is the 50-seat restaurant Chef Michelle Bernstein (former chef of Azul at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Miami and of her namesake restaurant MB at the Fiesta Americana Hotel in Cancun) has just opened in collaboration with restaurateur Steven Perricone (of Perricone in Downtown Miami). Working the front of the house husband/partner David Martinez is in charge of the wine list with a good wine-by-the-glass program. The décor is simple and warm with whimsically upholstered white chairs, orange suede banquettes, fancy chandeliers and blue lacquered floors. All dishes on Chef Bernstein’s well-priced menu come either in half or full order. There is a raw bar with lobster, stone crabs and caviar, and ceviches. The menu (priced from $6 to $20) lists appetizers with beef and tuna carpaccio, escargot-style Turks & Caicos conch; truffled polenta with poached egg and crispy bacon; sautéed quail with honey-roasted peaches, soy and lavender; seared foie gras with pear purée, and lunch and dinner sandwiches and salads such as watercress with tarragon, fresh grapes, goat cheese and shallots; and roasted beets with blue cheese foam and caramelized nuts. Entrées ($8 to $25) range from linguine and Florida pink shrimp with braised scallions, and a superb roast striped bass with black trumpet mushroom filling on a silky corn sauce, to fresh Cod, and wild salmon with grilled artichokes and spiced Greek yogurt. There’s boneless chicken filled with sausage served with apples and Brussels sprouts, steak frites, a merguez-like rabbit stew, lamb chops and duck breast with Oaxacan Mole. Michy’s, 6927 Biscayne Blvd., Miami, is open for lunch: Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 3 p.m., and for dinner Tuesday through Friday from 6 to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday till 10:30 p.m., and Sunday till 10 p.m. Closed on Mondays. Social Miami at Sagamore in the inner lobby of the chic “boutique” hotel that Conde Nast Traveler calls“One of the Top Twenty Hottest beach resorts in the world,” is set amidst hotel owners Marty and Cricket Taplin’s contemporary art collection of photography, paintings, sculpture and video art. The elegant setting is “South Beachy” white with palm-trees and modern banquettes, sofas and vintage seating. A white marble twenty-foot bar stands across from a video art installation and the dining area extends to an oceanside pool with cafe and bar. More than 120 wines from an exceptional wine list are offered by the glass in 3oz. and 6oz. pours from a $5 (3oz); Bellingham, Cabernet Sauvignon ‘01 South Africa to a $27 (3oz) Chateau Lafite Rothschild. Chef consultant Michelle Bernstein, along with Social Miami’s Executive Chef Sean Mohamed (formerly at China Grill Management’s Blue Door at The Delano) have created a global “small plate” menu (priced between $5 and $24), designed to be shared, and divided into four sections: “On Ice” includes Seafood Platters for two or four with shrimp, oysters and clams on the half shell, stone crabs and caviar and a selection of ceviches such as tuna, watermelon and ginger ceviche ($12), and shrimp and coconut ceviche ($12). Cold small plates include tuna tartare with chili oil, roasted peanuts, scallions, soy and potato gaufrettes ($15); buratta cheese from Puglia with grilled focaccia ($16); and deviled eggs with truffle oil and caviar ($10). Under “Warm,” the menu lists Moroccan-style fried minced lamb cigars with mint, za’atar, tabouli and tahini ($11); Korean style chicken wing lollipops with sticky rice ($10); and jerk spiny lobster on skewers over a cool jicama slaw with orange and chilies ($22). Among the “Hot” selections there’s oxtail ravioli with caramelized carrots ($15); braised pork belly with chicharrones and stir-fried bok choy ($11); seared foie gras and sweet plantain brioche sandwich ($24); NY strip steak ($17); Malaysian curry braised snapper($19), and mini Kobe burgers with melting onions and gruyère cheese ($19); and thin-crust pizzas.
Desserts ($6 to $7) range from a trio of petite cheesecakes and coconut panna cotta, to pastel del Diablo, a devil’s food cake soaked in guarapo and cocoa liqueur with roasted bananas, chocolate fudge and caramel.
Chef Michelle Bernstein and China Grill Management are planning to open Social Hollywood at the Hollywood Athletic Club in Los Angeles, next month, for which, in collaboration with executive chef Joe Ojeda (formerly of Asia de Cuba at Mondrian), they have created a Moroccan-accented menu.

The Glazier Group’s Peter, Penny and Mathew Glazier, who manage and owns restaurants throughout Manhattan, are opening a new Strip House this coming April -- the 4th to open in the US (the others are located in New York City, Livingston, New Jersey, and Houston, Texas). The Glaziers collaborated with architect and designer David Rockwell to create a saucy style 190-seat indoor/outdoor restaurant with a 65-seat lounge and bar complete with scarlet-red walls adorned with photos of vintage burlesque stars, pink lighting, leather chairs and booths playing off silk and velvet.
Chef Rene Lenger’s steakhouse-style menu offers for starters ($9 to $16) foie gras torchon, lobster bisque, salads, seafood platterand jumbo shrimp; followed by entrees of sesame-crusted yellowfin tuna ($29), fresh linguine with duck confit ($22.50), rotisserie chicken ($24.50), grilled and broiled meats ($35 to $38) ranging from NY strip and ribs to filet mignon, Maine lobster and Colorado lamb rack.
