CHOCOLATE FASHION BAKERY GIVES TASTE OF FRANCE TO CORAL GABLES.
Pastry chef Georges Berger from Lyon, and his wife Persy Berger have just opened Chocolate Fashion Bakery, a 10-table boutique-like café where Andalusia Bakery used to be. The walls are covered with Chef Berger's awards and decorations, including the MOF (Meilleur Ouvrier de France) medal personally handed by French president Giscard d'Estaing, and some reference to the famous Gaston Lenotre which whom Mr. Berger worked. Freshly baked baguettes, croissants, brioches and pains au chocolat ($1.25 to $1.95) and individual colorful tarts and éclairs ($2 to $3) vie for space with little pots of crème brûlée, decadent chocolates and luscious cakes and tarts ($16 to $26). For breakfast and lunch there are fluffy omelettes ($4.50) plain or with a choice of fillings such as onion, ham, mushroom or smoked salmon. The menu also offers quiches ($2.50), sandwiches ($4.95 to $6.25) and salads ($6.75) such as Niçoise, Caprese, Chicken on homemade baguettes or focaccias. Chocolate Fashion Bakery is open Monday to Friday 7 a.m to 6 p.m. Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed on Sunday. 248 Andalusia Ave., Coral Gables. 305-461-3200.


MICHAEL COLLINS GRILL OPENS ON LINCOLN ROAD TILL WEE HOURS.
Shepherd's Pie on Lincoln Road? Not since actor/restaurateur Michael Caine sold his restaurant to trendy Touch. But it's on the menu at the recently opened Michael Collins Grill, which now occupies the space where Parrilla del Pollo and Café Sambucca used to be. The 300-seat indoor/outdoor restaurant has a North-Eastern, Irish American feel with two bars, wooden floors, brick walls, some antique-looking fixtures, beer on tap and a good wine list. The two owners, Michael Collins and Daniel McKeown, are Irish and both were long-time employees at Smith & Wollensky. "We decided to give it a shot for ourselves," said Mickey who had been Beverage Manager at Smith & Wollensky in Miami and New York for 12 years. Dany was the barman at Smith & Wollensky South Beach. The executive chef is Steve Labina, whose specialty at the restaurant he owned Hobo Seafood in Coral Spring, was seafood. The café fare menu ranges from Shepherd's Pie ($9.95) with lamb and beef, peas, carrots and potatoes; Collins Fish & Chips ($11.95); the Grill's cheeseburger ($.9.95) and the mixed grill plate ($13.95) with lamb chop, calf liver and lamb sausage; to duck quesadillas ($8.95); Jumbo Crab Meat Cocktail ($12.95) with remoulade, and Fresh Brook Trout ($16.95). Big Salads ($4.95 to $13.95) list a warm spinach salad with smoked bacon, roasted wild mushrooms, red onions and hard cooked eggs. For late night dishes there are thin crust pizzas ($5.95); grilled or blackened chicken breast sandwich ($9.95), and South Beach Coco Loco Shrimp ($13.95). MISS YIP CHINESE CAFÉ THRIVES WHERE BAMBÚ LANGUISHED IN SOUTH BEACH.
Dim sum ($4.95 to $8.95) of steamed spinach and tofu, pork or shrimp, wontons; salt and pepper squid flowers; oven roasted pork ($9.95) and BBQ Peking duck ($17.95 are only part of the abundant fare prepared by Executive chef Vincent Cheng. The charming café, which lost the Bambú temple-of-fashion look, is decorated with jars of dried ginger and other ingredients also serves an entire lunch for $10.88 with spring rolls and a choice of white or brown rice. There is also a shop where you can get Chinese snacks and teas, silk runners, candles and other objects. Miss Yip Chinese Café is open daily for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.; for dinner Sunday through Thursday from noon to 11 p.m., and till midnight on Friday and Saturday. 1661 Meridian Ave., Miami Beach, 305-534-5488.
