VINE WINE SHOP & TASTING LOFT OPENS IN BISCAYNE CORRIDOR
Three women, Miamians and wine lovers; Ileana Fajardo, Marivi Iglesias and Cary Quintana, are opening the doors to their joint business venture: Vine Wine Shop & Tasting Loft, a 1400 square-feet old apartment building was transformed into a two-story loft where the three women sell specialty wines from around the world, gourmet cheeses and wine accessories on the first floor. The second floor, or “tasting loft,” is where wine lovers -- from casual drinkers to oenophiles -- can discover wines and expand their repertoire of experiences, and where they will conduct wine tastings and host artist exhibits. “Of the over 150 varieties of wine that the store carries we will focus on small production wineries and vineyards not found in mainstream stores or supermarkets,” said Cary Quintana, adding that the offerings include consulting, private wine tasting parties and gift baskets with gourmet cheeses, wines of course and other specialty products. AFTERGLO “BEAUTY CUISINE” SLATED TO OPEN MID-AUGUST IN SOUTH BEACH
The newest venture of Dr. Tim Hogle and his wife Irina Korneeva, owners of Tantra Restaurant and Lounge and Toni’s Sushi on South Beach, is afterglow, a 135-seat restaurant and late-night spot in the location of Mezzanotte where people used to dance on the tables a few years ago. The restaurant/lounge is decorated in original Egyptian limestone sculptures and a 16th century white marble gazebo. The Executive Chef is Michael Schwartz, the well-known chef/restaurateur who owns Nemo and Pink in South Beach. The Chef de Cuisine Sandee Birdsong, the sommelier: Bernardo Teixeira; and the pastry chef Alejandro Briseno. “ afterglo will be a celebration of food, drink and all other life-empowering human endeavors. A place where beauty and indulgence coexist,” declares Dr. Hogle claiming that: “We eat at least three times a day, every day. Eating is our most regular and habitual activity. Therefore making the consumption of beautifying foods a personal habit has the highest potential to achieve the most favorable beauty results.” The concept of “Beauty Cuisine” is based on foods with a low glycemic index rating, with anti-inflammatory and high alkaline properties, lots of minerals, enzymes and energy nutrients. afterglo’s menu is based on the use of fresh locally farmed organic products, wild game and seafood from sustainable sources such as appetizers of live Maine lobster sashimi, wild venison tataki, Tosaka sushi rolls, grilled Mediterranean sardines; ceviches, carpaccios and gazpachos. Salads list “Way to glo” with marjoram vinaigrette sprinkled with hemp seeds accompanied by a fresh papaya & aloe vera juice shot; “A beautiful mind:” baby romaine lettuce tossed with blueberries, walnuts, brazil nuts, organic sun dried goji berries & thai coconut meat garnished with a pomegranate – chia seed jelly & ground raw cacao in a rosemary, ginko & gotu kola vinaigrette; “ shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen” salad followed by a freshly squeezed baby green apple juice shot. Entrees include grilled rib eye of American grass fed bison; New Zealand lamb; Tunisian grilled vegetables; pan-roasted wild pheasant; grilled & sliced sirloin of wild nilgai antelope; pastas; Wild Alaskan halibut, and a raw plate sampler. For sides the choices are steamed brown rice; beauty pearls: that is hato mugi barley cooked with miso, roasted corn & edamame. afterglo is open for lunch and dinner. SOBE WRAPS, HEALTH CONSCIOUS EXPRESS FOOD IN SOUTH BEACH.

TARA STEAK & LOBSTER HOUSE CLOSES IN COCONUT GROVE TO OPEN IN FORT LAUDERDALE
After a year run at the Sonesta Hotel in Coconut Grove, at 2289 McFarlane Road, Tara Steak & Lobster House is relocating to Fort Lauderdale. This is the second location in Florida (the first is in Marco Island). Owner Tara Trevethan feels that the new free standing building with a 200-seat restaurant and lounge, banquet facilities for groups up to 150, and private rooms for 20 - 50 guests will be more appropriate for Tara’s Steakhouse’s quality meats and the Wine Spectator "Award of Excellence" wine list. Tara Steak & Lobster House is scheduled to open October 1, 2005 for dinner: Sunday through Thursday from 5:30 to 11:00 pm and Friday and Saturday from 5:30 pm to 12:00 midnight.
