THE RONEY PALACE HOTEL AND BEACH RESORT CLOSES ITS DOORS
Eighty years after it first opened in 1925, the 585-room, 17-story landmark hotel and its satellite restaurants are closing their doors, giving the nearly 200 employees 60 days notice. The property was sold with furniture and fixtures for $150 million to the Chetrit Group, to enable the New York developers to reopen under a new management. The reason: impending bankruptcy due to increasing financial strains including a $3.8 million interest payment due in February, according to Miami Herald's Ina Paiva Cordle. There is no change in status for the condos.
